Tools to Share God’s Word With Your Kids + NEW Children’s Bible Review & Giveaway

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. – Deuteronomy 6:4-9
One of the greatest ways to point your children to Christ is to share God’s Word with them. It’s our job as parents, to daily teach and train our children in Scripture and it’s a responsibility we should not take lightly. It can be overwhelming though, to know how to share God’s Word in a way that they can grasp and remember. I’ve got a few creative ways to help:
First off, this might seem obvious, but the best way to Share God’s Word with your child is to consistently read the Bible to them!
Daily, get in the Word together.
Read to them and ask questions about the stories. Remind them that God’s Word is truth! There are more Children’s Bible resources available now than ever before. ZonderKids sent me their newest Children’s Bible to review for you!
This is such a fun and creative illustrated Bible story book!
It’s got bright and colorful pictures to go along with the stories, and they paraphrase the Bible stories in a way that Kids can grasp.

I’d say this is more friendly for school aged children rather than toddlers as the ratio of words per page gets a little long for little ones. There are little things about it, like the fact that it’s cover is slightly textured makes it one of Olivia’s favorite books to play with.
I was expecting a full children’s Bible, but really this has just some of the “main stories”. I’d describe it it more as a children’s Bible story book rather than a full illustrated Bible.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend it!

Other ways to teach Scripture:
Make songs out of Scripture– I asked my friends on Instagram for some suggestions of creative ways to share Scripture with children and music was the most popular answer! There are some great resources like Seeds Family Worship, and Slugs and Bugs that puts word for word Scripture to Music!
Incorporate it into play time: Another Instagram response was to act out bible stories– I love this idea! Make it extra fun by playing dress up or building forts. For older kids- make it into a Bible Story charades family game night.
Put up Scripture around your home. Just as the verse I shared at the beginning said, “Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
I truly believe that one of the best ways to invite a peaceful atmosphere into your home is to surround yourself with God’s word: whether in lovely framed prints or simple handwritten sticky notes on the bathroom mirror.
Memorize verses together as a family. Continual repetition is key in order to hide God’s word in our Hearts. Consider verses that are relevant to your situation or circumstance: Having some trouble with complaining in your family? Work on Philippians 2:14 or Ephesians 4:29 together. Is your little one anxious about starting school? Memorize Philippians 4:6-7 together. Incorporate hand motions and vocal inflections to make it easier and more fun!
