When to Splurge and When to Save

You’ve probably figured out by now that I love a good bargain deal. I’m constantly scouring the clearance racks for clothing and I even love a good thrift store find! But there are a few items that you get what you pay for. So when it comes to splurge vs. save, where do you start? Here’s the breakdown I tend to go by:
Splurge:
footwear staples (boots, tennis shoes, heels)
winter coats
bras
purses/bags
Save:
casual footware (flats, sandals, slippers)
spring/fall jackets- some of my favorite fall picks
tops, (tshirts, tunics, blouses, sweaters)
accessories (scarves, jewelry, hats)
A quick note on jeans: a good fit isn’t necessarily dependent on cost. It’s more about finding a brand that fits you well. If you need to sink a little money into it, I say it’s worth it. But if you have an affordable brand that works well for your body type, then enjoy the money saved!

A good way to save money on your seasonal investment pieces is to wait to buy until after the season is over for clearance deals in anticipation for the next year.
I’ve done this for boots and winter jackets.

For buying boots in past years I would opt for middle range price points. I would find $50 boots that looked cute, but at that price you’re not buying quality leather. Year after year they would be ruined after just one season.

I decided to invest in these Sam Edelman boots last year, and I’m kicking myself for not investing in a high quality leather boot sooner! They are the softest leather, SO incredibly comfortable, and they held up amazingly in the weather. I wore these boots everywhere and all the time! Be sure to treat them with a good weather protecting spray, especially if you live in an area that gets snow. The splurge is worth the way they last season after season.

I LOVE this Asymmetrical Snap Popover. Throw out the old college hoodies and opt for something like this for a more sophisticated, yet still cozy look. It’s very warm, so it’s a great option for outerwear. I’d say it’s pretty true to size. I wanted it to be a little bit roomy so I could layer underneath so I went with a size S. Size down if you want a more fitted look.
It’s on sale for $40 right now!! It doesn’t go on sale often, so snatch it up while you can!! I got mine on a memorial day sale so It’s been sitting in my closet all summer and I’ve been dying to wear it!
Goodnight Macaroon has similar pullovers but instead of fleece they are a soft sherpa fabric. I found a dupe on Amazon that is so soft! I can’t say how the quality compares to the Goodnight Macaroon ones, but for less than $25, I’m quite pleased with with my purchase! So far it’s held up well for me in the wash. The Amazon ones are quite a bit more lightweight than the Abercrombie pullovers.

These pullovers are a great example of where you can save a bit rather than splurging on the more expensive versions. What items do you typically splurge vs. Save?
Leave me a comment and let me know if you picked up one of theses sweaters! I’ll be wearing mine on repeat this fall!
