My Top Favorite Hair Care Products

Darling Little Life has been sort of quiet lately… I apologize! Since 3rd trimester hit it’s been a blur between 2 extremes: nesting everything I can get my hands on and only wanting to nap. I’ve been a little bit distracted. For example, I had time set aside to work on this post a couple days ago and I ended up deep cleaning my fridge instead! Oops! I’ve had a hair care products post on my mind for a while now. I also feel like I’m still learning about what works for my hair and I’m fairly new at caring for my hair in a healthy(ish) way, so I welcome your input in the comments with any of your favorites!

At some point after college I realized that box dyes and cheap products were not doing it any justice.

It looked dead and dull.  So slowly I started researching, testing, and asking friends about different products. I’ve got some favorites that I’ll share below! Some I splurge on, and some I choose to go the drugstore route with and save a couple dollars. This isn’t the full list of products I use, but it’s a few worth mentioning!

A note on my hair: It’s quite thin, very fine, and has pretty good curl to it (especially in the humid summer season). As always, here’s my disclaimer on beauty products I share with you:  what works for me, might not always work for you! There is such a diverse scope of hair types, so keep that in mind. (All products are linked below the photo!)

Hair Treatment:

Amika Nourishing Mask: When using this, my hair has never been so soft. Honestly, it makes my hair look healthy, shiny, and takes care of all that frizz. But if you’re looking for a more budget friendly option, with so many healthy benefits, try using coconut oil! I put it in my dry hair, let it sit for a while- many will let it sit overnight using a shower cap, then wash it out, and ta-da! you’ve got healthy, shiny hair!

Healthy Sexy hair Soy Renewal Oil: I use this as needed… the great thing is you can use it when your hair is wet or dry! I’ll throw it in before I style if my hair is looking dull at the ends, but I use it most often after I wash it. Along the same lines as this renewal oil is the Redken One United Multi Benefit Treatment Spray. To me, it’s pricey, but it does work really great and I love the smell. I bought it once, but haven’t gotten more yet just because of the price.

Hair Styling:

Matrix Style Fixer Hair Spray: (currently on sale!) This is another one of those items that I splurge on. It smells ah-mazing and it holds so well without making my hair look like its cemented in place. I used to use mountains of a drugstore hairspray, but I would buy it almost weekly from how quickly I would go through it! I remember running back to my dorm in between classes to re-spray my hair! haha. I find that it takes me much longer to go through a bottle of this hairspray, and I always buy it when it’s on sale, so really the much better quality and initial investment is worth it to me.

Big sexy Hair Powder Play Volumizing and Texturizing Powder: This stuff is my secret weapon to hiding the fact that I have fine hair with minimal volume (even with the curls). I’m a recovering “overly teased” hair addict, and I’ve tried to tone things down so that I don’t damage my hair too much. This product helps with giving lasting hold quick volume for the little bit of teasing that I do. Also this little bottle lasts FOREVER. I’m only half way through the bottle that I got last July and I use it pretty liberally almost everyday!

Garnier Fructis Curl Construct Mousse:  I love that this mousse is cheap, it smells great, and doesn’t make my curls look “crunchy”. Any curly hair girls know what I’m talking about?! In my opinion, its a good basic product! Let me know if you have any other favorites for curly hair! I’m totally open to trying something new out!

Tool Structure Tortoise Backcomber: I’ve used these combs for years and I prefer them to teasing brushes. At $2, you can’t go wrong!

Batiste Dry Shampoo: Dry shampoo is possibly the greatest invention ever. Can I get an amen? A product that smells great, refreshes your hair, and soaks up unwanted oil between washes is amazing. This is one of the more budget friendly products. I haven’t felt the need to try anything more high end, simply because this works so well for me! There are several different scents to pick from, my personal favorite is “tropical”. Be sure to get it at your local grocery store or target, rather than Ulta.  You’ll save a dollar or two! I’m sure I’ll be using this even more once baby girl comes and life gets a little more crazy!

That’s all I have for you! Any products you’d like to try? Is there anything I missed that you would recommend?

Read about my drugstore foundation face off for some of my favorite foundations! I still use both on a daily basis.
