For less than $100 and a few hours of labor,
That sweet husband of mine made a darling farmhouse coffee table!

We had been “making do” with a hand me down coffee table. Because sometimes “your mismatched furniture from the thrift store isn’t at all what you had imagined for your home. But in this season you steward what God has gifted you by arranging it as best you can… No matter that it’s not pottery barn perfect.” (read more from my recent post, The Gospel and Your Home.)
But it was glass top with some pretty sharp edges, which is not very kid friendly. Before we know it, baby girl will be toddling around. So it was time for something new, and I can’t believe we didn’t do it sooner! We were thrilled with how it turned out. It was a quick weekend project- my husband went and got the wood friday night, worked on it for a couple hours Saturday morning and then finished it up Sunday afternoon.
He followed the plans from Ana White: Rustic Coffee Table
Our total cost of wood materials (from Lowes) was: $83.98

I did a really light coat of Rust-Oleum Stain in Kona on top. We wanted it to look rustic and show a lot of the wood grain. I followed with 3 coats of matte polyurethane that we had on hand (it still has a touch of shine to it). Be sure to lightly sand and wipe down in between each coat!
Ivory pillow with tassels- I couldn’t find this size online, but I just saw it in store at Hobby Lobby the other day. Here is the 12X20″ version
For the base, again I just used some paint I had on hand from painting the trim around the house: Valspar Ultra 2000 paint and primer in satin finish. It’s a custom white color, the same white in our kitchen remodel that we color matched to our white subway tile. We’ve used it around the house to keep everything consistent.
I debated on doing just one thin coat of the white paint and letting the wood grain show through a bit (almost a milky chalk paint look) but in the end we decided to do a second coat for more coverage and kept the wood grain only showing on top.

I’m on the hunt for a good basket(s) to go on the bottom section of the coffee table- a perfect place to store some toys for sweet girl! What types of things are on your home project list? Let me know in the comment section- I love hearing from you!
