Simple Farmhouse Gallery Wall

Happy weekend, darlings! I’m so excited about my most recent little home decor project:

an entryway gallery wall with some farmhouse charm!

It was a really quick project… I prepped and spray painted one day and we put it up the next afternoon. By “we” I mean, my husband put it up. I’m so helpless with a hammer and nails, let alone power tools. It’s pretty embarrassing. Lucky for me, he’s willing to help and is so patient with me when I change my mind 17 times about where i want things!

I got this adorable “welcome” sign from the Found Cottage. (P.S. I can’t even handle how cute this shop is! It oozes Joanna Gaines.) I got it in the unfinished wood, and initially I was going to stain it, but I opted for spray painting it in a satin black instead. It’s hard to see in the picture, but it gives just enough shine while still showing the wood grain. I picked up the “It’s so good to be home” sign a while back at Hobby Lobby, and it’s 50% off right now!

Here are a few tips to help you get started on your own gallery wall

1. Plan your space.

I made several arrangements on the floor to figure out my layout and visualize the end project. This way you don’t make a bunch of  holes in your wall from switching things around. In the end, I went with the most simple look, because I didn’t want to overwhelm the small wall space!

For more complex designs, I love this approach. You cut out paper silhouettes of your picture frames/signs and tape those up on the wall to figure out the layout!

2. Keep it visually balanced.

Always work in odd numbers (rule of three, anyone?) with any sort of home decor arrangements.  In this project I have 3 things, all balanced out. If you’re struggling with this on your own gallery wall, create an imaginary square and arrange your objects inside.

3. Add depth.

A shelf or some picture frames with different textures will keep a gallery wall from looking to flat and boring. I used some IKEA kitchen wall storage items to hang some plants (they’re fake…There’s no way I will be watering those way up on the wall).

Happy DIY-ing!
